Linden Update | March 7, 2025

Picked by Jim Law, the Winegrower’s Selection, Linden’s subscription offering, includes six-bottle shipments twice a year of small-lot bottlings, unusual wines, and vintages of which we are particularly proud.

Winegrower’s Selection | Spring 2025

When deciding which wines to include in Winegrower's Selection, we pop a lot of corks. We taste side-by-side, and we debate. But the final decision is made in my kitchen. I love to cook and eat in harmony with the seasons. Admittedly, in the waning days of winter it is challenging to create spring cuisine. But soon fresh, local produce will become available along with options to dine outside. These wines have been chosen for the occasion.

This spring, our Winegrower's Selection includes two very lively Sauvignon Blancs that can even pair with asparagus. The crystalline 2020 Avenius Chardonnay cries for delicate fish or cold shrimp. On the red side, I decided to "pre-release" the fruit forward 2022 Boisseau Red. This is a vegetarian red wine: no meat required. We raided the wine library for the next two selections, both of which go well with grilled foods. The 2016 Petit Verdot can handle some spice. But keep the seasoning simple for the 2017 Hardscrabble Red as this beauty needs to take center stage.

– Jim Law

Shipments go out twice a year in April and November. Currently, the cost ranges from $260-$325 per shipment (6 bottles, two times per year), plus any applicable taxes and shipping fees. The selection in April 2025 is $289 and will ship the first week of April. We ship via UPS to Florida, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

April 2025 Winegrower's Selection: 2020 Avenius Chardonnay, 2022 Hardscrabble Sauvignon Blanc (pre-release), 2022 Avenius Sauvignon Blanc (pre-release), 2022 Boisseau (pre-release), 2017 Hardscrabble Red, and 2016 Petit Verdot.

We enjoy geeking out about wine at Linden. As part of that we have been conducting seminars to go more in depth than our comparative tastings. Kathleen Rakestraw of Linden Vineyards will lead an introductory seminar focused on understanding your palate.

Wine 101: Find Your Palate

This introductory-level seminar will be an educational experience for those who are stymied by all the different wine styles available. We will use Linden wines to walk through several tasting components: sweetness, acidity, tannins, body, and flavor profile. While identifying these components, participants will explore a variety of types of wine to help them discover their wine palate preferences. Linden's Kathleen Rakestraw will lead this seminar. Kathleen has received her WSET III, Spanish Wine Scholar, and Italian Wine Essentials certifications.
