Quick end to red harvest

Linden’s 2024 Harvest is nearly complete. Only Petit Manseng remains on the vines. Weather events and rain forecasts called for a final push this past weekend. Given the current string of damp, gloomy days it was a good call. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot were not as ripe as we had wanted, but under these conditions the bunches would have gone south and started to fall apart.

We’ll be gentle with extractions as in some cases the seeds and skins are not fully ripe. This means lower fermentation temperatures along with drawing the wine off the skins earlier than usual.

Fortunately we already have some ripe and powerful Merlot and Cabernet Franc actively fermenting in the cellar. The red blends for vintage 2024 could be atypical.
